BURKS RETURNS TO BOSTON, NIXON SIGNS FOR 3 MORE YEARS, ORTIZ LOCKED UP

The Sox have signed DH/OF Ellis Burks to a one year $750,000 deal. He began his long career with us and due to injuries, the Sox let him go. He's been productive since then and should bring some good veteran leadership.

Nixon got his contract extended 3 more years. The number 7 should be a fixture in the outfield and a leader in the clubhouse for years to come.

David Ortiz is receiving about a 400% raise this year. He deserves it.

The Sox did not have to go into arbitration this offseason which is a painful and time consuming and stupid process. Think about it, a player can have his contract increased if he does well but it can't be decreased if he does poorly.
